Mrs Gauri Kaul
Sister of Prof PN. Dhar, a leading economist and principal Secretary to Mrs Indira Gandhi. Married toPulwama in a familyPrem Nath Kaul (Khan), resident of village Hawal, Distt of shopkeepers. Her husband however studied law in Lucknow and took a job in Delhi in 1950 in an insurance company.
She would always spend 3 months in Srinagar every year and never got adjusted to life in Delhi. She would be glued to DD Kashir in last several years of her life.
Very articulate with a sharp memory and an analytic mind; could recite Kashmiri poetry, Lala Dedi wakh and Sheikh Noorudin's shrueks. Used to spend hours with late Prof. Aga Ashraf Ali giving him lot of information of good old Kashmir for his books.
She has left a legacy of her 2 sons. Upendra Kaul cardiologist and Shankar Kaul who is a very senior executive in a well known medical device company Baxter in Singapore. Her 2 brothers Prof PN Dhar and Sh B L Dhar, Husband Mr P N Kaul, grand children Samir and Amita both married happily (Upendra's children), Keshav and Sharika (Shankar's children), Daughter in laws Upkar (Upendra's wife) and Anita (Shankar's wife) all doing very well in life. Breathed her last on 13th June 2011 at 8 am, Upendra was on her side and tried to do his bit which obviously did not work this time.

He graduated in Medicine (MBBS) from The Maulana Azad Medical College and continued his studies at the same institution to secure MD in 1975 and DM in cardiology in 1978. Later, he obtained advanced training in interventional cardiology from Australia during 1983 to 84. He has served the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as a professor of cardiology and has been a member of the faculty of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, G.B. Pant Hospital, Batra Hospital and Fortis Health Care, NCR and Executive Director and Dean at Fortis Health Care, New Delhi. Kaul is a former president of the Cardiological Society of India and the SAARC Cardiac Society and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS). He has published over 450 medical papers and has won the Medtronic Award for the Best Scientific Paper in 1983. He received the highest Indian award in the medical category, Dr. B. C.Roy Award, in 1999. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honor of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian medicine. He is also a recipient of the Dr. Thapar Gold Medal in 1970, Searle Award of the Cardiological Society of India in 1986, Shakuntala Amirchand Prize of the Indian Council of Medical Research in 1987, Press India Award in 1992 Dr. Kaul is one of the top Cardiologists in New Delhi and has an experience of over 35 years. He is one of the first Cardiologists to start coronary interventions in India & has started a number of new techniques in I n t e r v e n ti o n a l C a rd i o l o g y w h i c h i n c l u d e percutaneous cardiopulmonary bypass, rotational & directional atherectomy, coronary stenting and percutaneous laser myocardial revascularization etc. He was formerly Professor of Cardiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
